Tumescent Liposuction - A Safe Way Of Fat Removal

By Linda A. Lithony

If you have decide for a cosmetic surgery then you have probably two problems. The first one is the surgery itself. Every surgery has risks which could probably even be fatal. The second problem is that you are doing the surgery for aesthetic reasons. So the surgery must also deliver aesthetic results beside the medical ones.

The most popular cosmetic surgery today is a liposuction. A needle is inserted under your skin and then the cosmetic surgeon is removing the fat quite ungently. If you have seen the procedure on television already, you won't feel safer for your body yet.

There is an option to make this surgery much safer and less invasive. It is called tumescent liposuction and beside the safety it has a couple of other advantages.

The advantages of tumescent liposuction are clear. Much less blood loss, a much faster recovery time and it just requires a local anesthesia instead of a full one. The procedure allows a fat removal with much less tissue damage and is therefore the number one technique in liposuction today.

Why is tumescent liposuction better? There is not really much of a difference but the one thing that is done differently is responsible for the good results. It is the liquid that is injected into the body that makes the difference. The liquid consists of lidocaine, epinephrine and saline and results in a slower blood circulation because the capillaries shrink.

This fluid causes a swelling and when the needle is inserted to remove the fat cells, the doctor has much more room to operate and causes less damage.

The tumescent liposuction is quickly finished and for you it means that you can go back to work after about four days already. It also means that you have less pain which can be kept under control with standard pain killers.

The only disadvantage of tumescent liposuction is that it takes a little longer because of all the fluid that also has to be removed after the surgery is finished. But compared with the advantages it is still the better choice.

There are common side effects like with any surgery. You may experience swelling and pain of course. There will be scars and some numbness. All these things should disappear after a few days to weeks and no longer bother you. Beside of that there are other typical complications for a liposuction. Your doctor has a list of all possible outcomes. Beside of that, tumescent liposuction is known to be very safe nowadays.
